Iphone Signal problems due to software...

Technology giant Apple has said that the recent signal problems experienced by owners of its new iPhone 4 are down to a software problem.

The company has written to is customers to explain that after investigating the problem the cause of the issues was found to be both 'simple and surprising'.

According the firm, the loss of signal bars experienced by many customers is because a software glitch meant that the phones were displaying two bars more than they should have been.

The firm explained that as this was the case, users in areas with weak signal strength may have seen their phone display two bars when in reality, they had none.

Customers have now been told: 'To fix this, we are adopting AT&T's recently recommended formula for calculating how many bars to display for a given signal strength.

'The real signal strength remains the same, but the iPhone's bars will report it far more accurately, providing users a much better indication of the reception they will get in a given area.'

Despite the issues, Apple insisted that the iPhone 4 has been the company's 'most successful product launch' and has been judged to be 'the best smartphone ever' by reviewers around the world.
